Key Benefits of Resveratrol*

  • Resveratrol Supplements May Help Lower Blood Pressure. Because of its antioxidant properties, resveratrol could be a promising supplement for lowering blood pressure.
  • Has a Positive Effect on Blood Fats. Several studies in animals have suggested that resveratrol supplements may change blood fats in a healthy way. Resveratrol seems to influence cholesterol levels by reducing the effect of an enzyme that controls cholesterol production. As an antioxidant, it also may decrease the oxidation of “bad” LDL cholesterol. LDL oxidation contributes to plaque buildup in artery walls.
  • It Lengthens Lifespan in Certain Animals. There’s evidence that resveratrol activates certain genes that ward off the diseases of aging. It works to achieve this in the same way as calorie restriction, which has shown promise in lengthening lifespans by changing how genes express themselves.
  • It Protects the Brain. Several studies have suggested that drinking red wine can help slow down age-related cognitive decline. This may partly be due to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of resveratrol. It seems to interfere with protein fragments called beta-amyloids, which are crucial to forming the plaques that are a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease.
  • It May Increase Insulin Sensitivity. These benefits include increasing insulin sensitivity and preventing complications from diabetes. One explanation for how resveratrol works is that it may stop a certain enzyme from turning glucose into sorbitol, a sugar alcohol.

Key Benefits of Tropoflavin*

  • Powerful BDNF Booster. 7,8-Dihydroxyflavone (7,8-DHF) is a flavone found in plants. It was discovered while searching for molecules that imitate the function of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). BDNF promotes the growth of neurons and synapses (synaptogenesis) and is very important for normal brain function. Lower amounts of BDNF are observed in diseases such as depression, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and schizophrenia. Animal studies show that 7,8-DHF could help with brain repair, long-term memory, depression, and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Superior Anti-Oxidant. Tropoflavin possesses robust antioxidant activity independent of its actions on the TrkB receptor and protects against glutamate-induced excitotoxicity, 6-hydroxydopamine-induced dopaminergic neurotoxicity, and oxidative stress-induced genotoxicity.
  • Prevents Neurodegenerative Disease. In various animal models Tropoflavin has shown benefits in the treatment of a wide number of neurodegenerative diseases such as Altzheimers, Parkinson’s’, Huntington’s Disease, ALS & MS. Helps through various interactions such as reduced amyloid plaque formation, reduced oxidative stress, and prevents loss of synapses, prevents memory deficits and preserves cognitive function.

Key Benefits of PQQ*

  • Stimulates the growth of new mitochondria. Greater mitochondrial damage has been found in brain cells of humans over 70 relative to those in their early 40s. Many scientists believe mitochondrial longevity and the number of functioning mitochondria determine overall human longevity. The coenzyme PQQ has been shown to induce mitochondrial biogenesis—the growth of new mitochondria in aging cells.
  • Superior Anti-Oxidant. Providing powerful antioxidant support to mitochondria and other body molecules—with up to 5,000 times the effect of other antioxidants, and protecting the brain’s cells and neurotransmitter systems against neurotoxicity and amyloid-beta protein.
  • Improves energy level. PQQ stimulates the growth of new mitochondria in aging cells, which are cellular power producers, responsible for almost all biochemical energy production.
  • Provides mitochondrial protection and repair. Recent rodent research on gene expression has shown that an induced deficiency of the coenzyme pyrroloquinoline quinone, or PQQ, results in an altering of the expression of a total of 438 genes.

Health Benefits and Molecular Mechanisms of Resveratrol: A Narrative Review

Resveratrol is a bioactive compound in many foods. Since its anticancer activity was reported in 1997, its health benefits have been intensively investigated. Resveratrol has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, glucose and lipid regulatory, neuroprotective, and cardiovascular protective effects, therefore, can protect against diverse chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), cancer, liver diseases, obesity, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease.

Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a compound present in grapes. It is most well-known for its presence in red wine. The popularity of this compound is attributed to a phenomenon called the “French Paradox”, which refers to the low incidence of cardiovascular disease among the French population despite their high intake of dietary fat. This low incidence was thought to be attributed to their intake of red wine.

Tropoflavin in Science Press

Wikipedia

Tropoflavin has demonstrated therapeutic efficacy in animal models of a variety of central nervous system disorders, including depression, Alzheimer’s disease, cognitive deficits in schizophrenia, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, cerebral ischemia, fragile X syndrome, and Rett syndrome. Tropoflavin also shows efficacy in animal models of age-associated cognitive impairment and enhances memory consolidation and emotional learning in healthy rodents. In addition, tropoflavin possesses powerful antioxidant activity independent of its actions on the TrkB receptor, and protects against glutamate-induced excitotoxicity, 6-hydroxydopamine-induced dopaminergic neurotoxicity, and oxidative stress-induced genotoxicity.

Summary of 7,8-Dihydroxyflavone (Examine).

7,8-dihydroxyflavone (7,8-DHF) is a synthetic flavonoid that was initially discovered in a study screening for small molecules that could activate a particular receptor known as tropomyosin-related kinase B (TrkB), because the peptide produced in the human body that acts on this receptor, called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), could not be used due to poor absorption into the brain. 7,8-DHF was found to be a potent mimic of BDNF able to act on TrkB in a similar manner. This means that 7,8-DHF could theoretically cause similar effects as BDNF in the brain, and in theory be more therapeutically useful due to its better absorption and ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.

PQQ in Science Press

Powerful Protection Against Cellular Aging

running man

A critical coenzyme known as PQQ activates vital cell-signaling pathways involved in creating new mitochondria, improving cellular metabolism, protecting neurons, and repairing DNA damage. PQQ has the potential to reverse subcellular aging!

How can PQQ target multiple aging factors? The answer lies in the potent and unique capacity of PQQ to activate cell signaling pathways, especially those directly involved in cellular energy metabolism. Also, similar to the action of CoQ10, PQQ actively participates in the energy transfer within the mitochondria that supplies the body with most of its bioenergy.PQQ can even trigger spontaneous mitochondrial biogenesis—the creation of fresh, new mitochondria! Specific cell signaling molecules have been found to be directly activated by PQQ.

Effects of Oral Supplementation with Pyrroloquinoline Quinone on Stress, Fatigue, and Sleep.

More than 1,000 studies, including animal and human clinical trials, have been conducted on PQQ to measure its effectiveness and safety. A randomized, placebo-controlled, and double-blinded study on 41 healthy elderly subjects who were each administered 20 mg/d of the ingredient for 12 weeks. The study showed significant improvements in subjects administered PQQ based on assessments measuring selective attention and visual-spatial cognitive functioning. Another eight-week study on 17 adult female subjects administered 20 mg of PQQ daily showed significant improvements in measurements for vigor, fatigue, tension-anxiety, depression, anger-hostility, and confusion.
